Valerie's Story

I moved from a small school in New Brunswick to Lemoyne d'Iberville H.S. going into grade 10. Coming from N.B. in those days, I should have been placed back in grade 9 but Mr. Orr thought I could handle the academic challenge. I found the algebra vs the N.B. "new math" completely different and for the first time in school, I struggled, barely passing Algebra and French. I spent half an hour in Physics class and walked out to switch to Biology...LOL...Physics was totally beyond me. And, I found the drop in social status a set-back (I knew everyone in my old N.B. school and had been Queen of the Junior High graduation prom, editor of the school newspaper, excelled in extracurricular activities: judo, "majorettes", cheer-leading, had the lead in the school play, competed in music festivals, et cetera) so coming to Lemoyne as the "new kid" put me in a bit of a funk. The other thing that happened is my name got changed from what I had been called all my life up until Lemoyne - I was known as Lynne from birth but my birth certificate says Valerie Lynne so the Lemoyne administration and the teach...Expand for more
ers called me Valerie, the way I was registered, and I've been known as Val ever since to everyone except my immediate family. I took part in the Judo team at Lemoyne. I hung out with the St. Bruno crowd mostly. I didn't attend the prom (one of my regrets) because by then, I was working for the Royal Bank and my parents had moved to P.E.I. and I didn't know that many people from Lemoyne so didn't have a date, either. I've got two grown children and three grandchildren, recently became single again and work for the federal government. I live in Ottawa's west end (Stittsville). I like yoga, walking, dancing, dining out or in, cooking and spending quality time with my grandchildren and their parents. I've signed up for Women's over 40 Soccer this year...I've never played before so it ought to be interesting. I am a happy person. I am blessed with lifelong friends, good family support , strength of character and inherit good values so have emerged almost unscathed from the worst life has thrown at me. It's good to connect with everyone here. Please do email me and I will email you back. Val
